Everyone has heard someone, at one point or another, claiming that they should eat their greens, but with new technology coming about and people finding new ways to ingest the nutrients they need, is it really that important to take in those fresh greens?
You’ll find that most nutritionists will suggest that eating the vegetables is the best way to go about getting the nutrition you need, but we’d like to weigh the options. Who really has time to make salads, cut up vegetables, and juice? Is it really worth the hassle? Or is it just as good, if not better, to ingest the powdered green juice we constantly see advertised in our Facebook feed?
We all know that nutrient absorption is facilitated when you’re drinking fresh juice. The vegetables are already partially digested, making it easier for your body to absorb them. You no longer have the fibrous components of the plants and with the cell walls being broken down, your body’s enzymes have no trouble utilizing these nutrients.
With this being said, the fine powders that make your powdered green juice are also easy for the body to process. Even though this is the case, there are studies that tell us the important absorption-facilitating enzymes are not typically preserved. However there are some brands on the market that claim they have a process that manages to preserve these enzymes.
Have you ever tried juicing? It’s not the easiest thing to do and it’s time consuming! Cutting the vegetables and tossing them in a juicer takes time and some people, for lack of a better explanation, lack the time they need to do this. With that being said, looking at the powdered green juice results in an observation of the obvious… It’s convenience! Just throw some of it in a drink, stir it up or blend it, and voila! You have nutrition that would have otherwise taken you quite a minute to prepare. Is it the same level of nutrition you’d get from the fresh stuff? Depending on the brand, close enough! But that convenience truly makes for an appealing tactic to get the nutrition your body is craving in a timely manner.
There is plenty of fiber found in vegetables, but when they are broken down into a powder or even a juice, you’re typically going to see that the end product is seriously lacking. With that being known, green powder juice is very low in fiber (if it even has any at all). This stuff is highly concentrated and these powders just aren’t a good source of the stuff. Fresh juice is also stripped of fiber as well, but it is possible to incorporate at least some of that fiber if you have a juice are home. Just take some of the pulverized vegetable pulp that is left over from the vegetables you juiced and mix a little back into your juice. By doing this, you’ll add to the fiber in your juice. You can also easily add fiber to your powdered green drink, of course.
Good Stuff For Your Body
Fresh juice is great for your body, but it typically has more calories and more sugar. You’ll notice that the powdered green juice will have around 30 calories and when compared to the fresh juices, you could have as much as 7 times the number of calories. Although a lot of these calories are viewed as good, the heightened sugar can pose a serious problem. This means you’ll want to incorporate more greens than fruit in your juices if you are going to make them fresh at home. You’ll also notice that powdered green drinks can contain a variety of other good stuff that you won’t find in your vegetables. For example, some of these powdered drinks contain probiotics or enzymes to add to the nutritional value.
The quality of your drink is ultimately going to depend on what you put into it. For example, if you are making a green juice at home out of organic fresh ingredients and sprinkling some supplements into the drink following its creation, you’re looking at the utmost quality. But if you’re taking produce that is grown in harsh conditions and just throwing it together, the result might not have the quality you’d expect. The same goes for the powdered green drinks. Depending on which powder you buy, you’ll find that some are better or worse than others. We suggest finding a quality powder that is both raw and dehydrated to ensure the best effects. Also, storing your powder in a cool and dry spot helps immensely. This will help you avoid nutrient loss as well as mold. Quality is ultimately up to you.
Comparing fresh and powdered green drinks shows us that it really depends on the brand and the ingredients. The truth behind this is that both of these drinks have their benefits and finding or making the most beneficial beverage is up to the user (you).
